Perhaps it’s all that inner energy motivating Coomi, the Mumbai-born designer who recently launched her fine jewelry collection at Saks Fifth Avenue. Her name, after all, actually stands for “third eye” — or “inner energy,” the gateway to a higher spiritual consciousness. Coomi’s creations are inspired from remote cultures and life experiences. While attaining her Art History degree, she traveled to villages of Gujarat and Rajasthan in India for a year to write her thesis in jewelry. There she was exposed to a myriad of art, people, and culture that ultimately served as her inspirations. “Even now it is the intermingling of life experience, art, and travel that has been my muse,” she tells SaksPOV. “The lucky thing about being a designer is every time I design a new piece it becomes my favorite. I feel a connection to the things that I create.” As her collections evolve, Coomi wants people to always associate the name with handcrafted beauty, as each individual piece reflects an organic feel that has defines the brand’s name.
