Back in 2005 Matthew Chevallard took on the challenge of getting velvet slippers custom made with his school’s crest for graduation. The not-so-simple task turned into a booming footwear business. The name Del Toro, which means of the bull, comes from the mascot of the local soccer team in Torino, Italy where Matthew was born. The collection is mélange of Matthew’s Italian upbringing, his Palm Beach prep school days, and his love for New York style. Not wanting to skimp on quality, the Miami based company makes all of their shoes by hand on the Adriatic Coast of Italy. As creative director Matthew has grown the brand from the original embroidered velvet slippers to a range that includes everything from linen to leather lace-up espadrilles. Our favorite is the cotton Classic Camo Slipper in olive/black with black grosgrain trim, leather sole, stacked wooden heel, and the signature red stripe up the back. This style is exclusive to Saks.com and will be coming to the New York and Beverly Hills stores in the fall.
