When it comes to Argentine polo player Nacho Figueras, a portrait really is worth a thousand words. There’s a reason why photographer Bruce Weber, whom he met at a Hamptons dinner party 12 years ago, introduced him to Ralph Lauren. And a reason why Lauren went on to name him the face of both Black Label and World of Polo Fragrances. And have we mentioned that Vanity Fair readers voted him the second most handsome man in the world in 2009 — a notch above Brad Pitt? Of course, you can judge for yourself when he makes an appearance at Saks today to celebrate the opening of our new Ralph Lauren Black Label shop.

There’s more to Figueras than his beautifully chiseled cheekbones, though. Growing up outside of Buenos Aires, he got into polo at age nine, turned pro at 17 and is now arguably the most famous face behind the sport, with even a guest stint on Oprah under his belt. Here, the polo sensation talks style, suiting and his relationship with — guess who? — Lauren.

On his fashion inspiration…
Ralph has always been an inspiration. I like old-school pictures, too.

On his style…
Classic.

On his earliest suit memory…
14, cousin’s wedding.

When buying a suit, always remember to…
Have a tailor fit it. Makes a big difference.

On his go-to look when…
Dressing up: Suit and silk knit tie. Dressing down: Jeans, T-shirt and Alpargatas shoes.

On Ralph Lauren…
Ralph is a man who inspires me very much and working with him for 12 years has been a real honor and privilege.

On what he’s thinking about when being photographed…
My next polo match.

On current guilty pleasures…
Horses, I have too many horses.

On his alternate career, if not a polo player…
Architect. I really like design.

A man looks best when…
He feels comfortable. Attitude is everything.

And a woman looks best when…
She is not trying too hard.
