Proceeds from the ticketed event benefited A Better Chicago, a venture philanthropy fund for the Chicago metropolitan area, which supports organizations that provide tools to underprivileged individuals to enter the workforce with an education and credentials.

Held at Terzo Piano at the Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago, Herrera trotted about glamorous looks ranging from an astrakhan skirt with a fur-trimmed mink jacket evoking a modern day Katherine Hepburn, a trumpet skirted evening gown in color-blocked plum and crimson and the finale gown, an extraordinary long sleeved emerald evening gown in silk sating with a fur-trimmed plunging back.

“This collection has great drama and emotion,” noted Herrera in the show notes for this collection.

“We were delighted to present Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2013 runway collection, with a nod to 1940′s glamour, to our lovely ladies in Chicago,” said Saks Senior Fashion Director, Colleen Sherin. “ Mrs. Herrera never fails to present an ultra-chic collection with a high wearability factor for women of any age.”

After the show, Saks President Ron Frasch feted Herrera to a glamorous seated dinner, where they nibbled on Filet Mignon with a Roquefort crust and closed the evening with a sweet note with a lemon soufflé tarts.

First shown during New York Fashion Week in a salon-style setting at The Plaza Hotel’s Terrace Room Posen’s fall collection conjures the old world grandeur of the 1940’s. The clothes themselves are both architectural and elegant, from the show stopping strapless lavender hourglass gown with fluted ruffled hem to a drape-neck wine gown with affixed cape.

Of the event, Posen told WWD: “It was more women dressed in my clothes than I’ve ever seen in one room [as I helped guests] in and out of dressing rooms helping women get ready for gala season.”

Saks’ Senior Fashion Director Colleen Sherin notes: “We were thrilled to bring a bit of New York fashion week magic to San Francisco, with the ever-charming Zac Posen presenting his Fall 2013 runway collection, brimming with red carpet-ready looks.

It’s A Formal Affair

It was Sly and the Family Stone who sang, “you’re still checking each other out” and nowhere is that more true than during black tie events. Whether you’re heading to a wedding or the baccarat table, you might as well make sure that you get your formal look right, especially if you’re going to invest all of that effort. Let’s discuss the accoutrements that will help you stand out from the sea of similarity that frequently plagues these events. Adding one of these formal accessories hand picked by our VP and Men’s Fashion Director, Eric Jennings, will ensure your look is more James Bond rather than Rick James. And while you’re not gunning for any best-dressed lists, it’s still nice to be recognized.  As Sly…

Tabitha Simmons: I wake up every day at 6am to get my kids ready for school, so this isn’t early for me at all!

SaksPOV: And it finally feels like springtime in New York. What is your favorite part of spring?
T.S.: The warm weather, absolutely!

SaksPOV: What will you be wearing this spring? Do you have any favorite styles from your collection in mind?
T.S.: I’m just so excited to be able to wear lighter shoes. I’ve been in boots and ankle boots for so long now. I’m going to wear these striped oxfords a lot!

SaksPOV: What is it like when you meet with customers?
T.S.:  It’s the greatest thing, honestly. I used to work at a shoe store — it was my first Saturday job. I love seeing what people like.

SaksPOV: What do you think when you see someone wearing your shoes?
T.S.: I still get excited! When I see someone wearing my shoes on the street, I accost them and say, “I made those shoes!”
