Giles & Brother looked eastward for its exclusive holiday jewelry collection with Saks.com. New York-based designer Philip Crangi created three custom pieces for the line, all inspired by the look and feel of Japanese armor. They include the Nara hematite-plated brass bracelet with pave rhinestones, the gold-plated brass Short Fringe bracelet with layered snake-like scales, and the brass Accented Armor ring with smokey quartz pave stones.

“The Japanese approach to design fascinates me, in particular Japanese armor has always inspired me very much,” Crangi tells SaksPOV. “I’m drawn to the mix of materials and the intricate methods of construction. These are two things that are always at the heart of Giles & Brother.”

The price points for the assortment range from $80 for the ring to $175 for the Nara bracelet. Crangi says the pieces signify the beginning of his next phase as a designer, where he’ll seek to bridge the gap between fine and costume jewelry.

“I’m attempting to define a new category of jewelry that exists between fine and costume, one that has the timelessness of the fine with the accessibility of costume,” Crangi says. “I want to make work that is truly design-driven and that’s where its value lies.”
