Flywheel spinning addiction has granted me legs that I am actually okay with showing off — something about shorts is just, well, intimidating. But the summer styles are so tempting (can we talk about this pair from 10 Crosby Derek Lam for a second?), I decided to experiment with moisturizers, self tanners and bronzers to create golden gams.
Here is the regimen:
Step 1: Exfoliate.
For years I have loved Kiehl’s Gently Exfoliating Body Scrub in Grapefruit. It smells so refreshing that the process of using it is so enjoyable I don’t even notice the extra minutes I am taking to give my legs a thorough scrubbing. Oh, and don’t forget your heels while you are at it. It’s sandal season, people!
Step 2: Clinique Self Sun Tinted Lotion.
The tint is the key here — you can’t mess it up. Color develops in 30 minutes and it is transfer-resistant, so if you decide at 6pm on Saturday that you want to wear shorts and need a tan, you can be good to glow out the door by 6:30.
Step 3: Nars Laguna Body Illuminator.
Just as highlighters give definition to your face, a little luminizer on the legs can make all the difference. This one has just the right amount of shimmer to make gams glisten in a sexy way as opposed to a kinda-sweaty way. Apply after shorts are on. Focus on the outer thigh and the center of the shin to create the effect of long and lithe muscles.
Oh, and I know this isn’t necessarily a beauty thing — but, final tip: accessorize with nude heels. I swear by Brian Atwood Maniacs. There are few things in this world that make me feel as good as when I slip these on. And your legs always look best when you exude confidence with every step.
