When a Gucci girl walks into the room she wants all eyes on her. Here, Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini talks exclusively with SaksPOV about style, glamour and how to inject a dose of red carpet wow into your wardrobe.
SaksPOV: What is your idea of glamour on the red carpet?
Frida Giannini: “Glamour means being at once feminine, elegant, sophisticated and confident. It’s not about appearances but rather the etiquette and poise with which a woman carries herself.”
SaksPOV:You created special dresses for Salma Hayek and Jessica Alba for the Golden Globes this year. The actresses both looked stunning, but very different. What inspired you with both those looks?
F.G.: “For the Golden Globes, I set out to design one-of-a-kind pieces that would reflect the individual style of each woman. For Salma’s dress I took inspiration from Art Déco to create something along the lines of our Spring Summer 2012 runway — the bustier top was embroidered in a graphic design with antique gold and silver glass bugle beads, and the skirt with vertical lines of glass beads. I think Salma looked stunning from head to toe. Jessica’s gown is one of my Gucci Première designs, made by our atelier in Paris. I envisioned her in something ultra-feminine and I think she absolutely glowed in the lilac silk charmeuse. Simply gorgeous!”

SaksPOV: How can a woman bring a bit of red carpet glamour into her everyday life?
F.G.: “Sometimes the smallest detail — from an unexpected high heel to a jeweled belt — can add just the right amount of glamour to any outfit.”
SaksPOV: What’s perfect the shoe of choice for a black tie —platform or stiletto? Why?
F.G.: “I prefer a stiletto — it makes for an elegant silhouette and a confident step.”
SaksPOV: Can you share any beauty tips for evening events?
F.G.: “It’s always a matter of striking a balance between all the elements of a look: the dress, the accessories, the make-up, and the hair. Avoid daring with all these elements because otherwise the look will be excessive. Find the right mix: for example a beautifully embroidered evening gown can work best with nude make-up and minimal accessories.”
