I knew I wanted to be a beauty editor when…
I didn’t! I really wanted to work at a magazine, though, as soon as I knew what a masthead was. I started out in features, and covered fine jewelry and watches before turning to beauty.
My first job out of college was…
Editorial assistant at W Magazine.
I’ve learned the most by working with…
The current team at Town & Country is pretty amazing. Everyone here has taught me so much about carefully reshaping a magazine, making it modern while also respecting its history (we’ve been around since 1846!). But I have to say my very first bosses at W — Julie Belcove, Jim Reginato and Chris Bagley — were hugely influential. And, of course, there’s my beauty godmother Jane Larkworthy, who introduced me to the lotion and potion world.
My biggest challenge is…
Narrowing down everything from the fields of makeup, skin care, hair, fitness, diet, wellness and health, not to mention plastic surgery and dermatology, into one section a month!
The best thing about my job is…
Getting to meet people who are truly passionate about what they do.
I cannot live without my…
Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero Smudge Lengthening Mascara — It’s the only one that doesn’t flake off underneath your eyes.
In my makeup bag you will find…
YSL’s Glossy Stain #8, a bright orange, which I’m newly obsessed with. You’re supposed to dab it on your lips and not blot. It lasts an absurdly long time for lip gloss – though technically it’s a gloss-stain-lipstick hybrid.
Best facial…
I love Luzinete at Dr. Sadick’s office for a medical-grade cleaning.
Best hair product…
Shu Uemura Essence Absolue oil.
Best/most rewarding workout…
I did work out with Tracy Anderson for seven weeks, six days a week, for a story in W — and that still goes down as the most demanding workout of all time. I also love the challenging but rewarding Honey Flow class at Kula Yoga in Tribeca.
The best beauty tip I’ve ever received…
Drink tons and tons of water.
