Nina Runsdorf set out to launch her fine jewelry collection, NSR, with one thing in mind: rock the rock business.
It’s not every day that a designer can shift the paradigm in a particular category. It’s especially rare when it comes to fine jewelry, a trade going back to ancient times (and in not so ancient times, by well established houses such as Cartier, Graff and Harry Winston). But leave it to Runsdorf the tall, gorgeous and stylish fashion industry veteran, whose family connection in the diamond business goes back seven generations.

Runsdorf sources magnificent and unique cuts of diamonds that resemble flat, faceted shards of glass. Each diamond has its own unique, often amorphous shape and sparkles like nothing else. Runsdorf was the first to includes slices in her pieces and now her collection has opened up to all shades of the rainbow — with sapphire, ruby and emerald slices as the central fixture in her intricate and rare pieces. “NSR is modern, creative, elegant and never too precious to be worn,” Runsdorf tells SaksPOV. “I could never find jewelry that was precious yet casual and complimented my modern lifestyle. I wanted fine jewelry that could be worn with a t-shirt and jeans or a ball gown — so I created it.”
What’s more is how Runsdorf sets these magnificent stones. Encapsulated in a hand-set frame of micro-pave diamonds or anchoring the center of a bib necklace, each NSR piece is stunning.
Next up for this native New Yorker is a silver jewelry line bowing this fall at Saks Fifth Avenue. After that, she sees no boundaries. “When people think of the NSR name, I want them to hold on to quality and integrity of all my collections.”
