Tracy Margolies always has her finger on the pulse — or perhaps it’s her toe? As Vice President and Divisional Merchandise Manager for footwear at Saks Fifth Avenue, Margolies can recite the shoe Alphabet by heart — from Atwood to Zanotti. “Shoes are personal and emotional. They can change any outfit. Think of a simple black dress. How great would it look with a fabulous leopard peep toe or a neon pointy-toe pump? They are a game changer and a way a woman can personalize her own look.” In Margolies’ own wardrobe: styles form Nicolas Kirkwood, anything with gold or glitter and the highest heels imaginable (“no one really knows how tall — or short — I am!”). While she has access to every shoe designer on the planet, Margolies can’t help but recall her first brush with greatness south of her ankles. “My first pair of designer shoes was the Manolo Blahnik Carolyne in black. They were three inches and I thought that was high then.”
